Our mission is both to perform world-class research on technology-enhanced learning and instruction and to apply what we know and learn in collaboration with psychologists, education practitioners, business and government enterprises and non-profit organizations to learning at the workplace, in schools and at universities.
We develop applications in the areas of e-Learning, e.g. knowledge management, assessment, mobile learning, cognitive tools, authoring tools, interactive exercises, ePortfolio, and recommendation systems.

Intelligent Learning Environments research portfolio includes several projects which rely on our expertise in adaptive hypermedia, student modelling, instructional design based on psychological results, web-technologies, knowledge representations for the Semantic Web, adaptive course generation, rendering and semantics of mathematical formulae, action analysis, proof planning, technology for novel pedagogy.

Establishing Learning Networks supports the collaboration of enterprises, private and public organisations to enter into technology enhanced learning integrating new Media and increasing technologies. We start technology transfer and supply sustainable learning networks using these technologies.

“Lifelong-Learning” involves concepts, methods and technologies, which take the increasing demand for information and knowledge during all phases of the learning lifecycle into account – starting from the education of basics over further education to the continuous topicality saving of the state-of-the-art-knowledge in the everyday work field. The center of the examination is the structure, the preservation and the broadening of the knowledge and the skills of the knowledge demanders.

E-Learning & Knowledge Managemenent supports conception & specification of Learning Objects and associated architectures to enable adaptive and personalized learning in various contexts, e.g., academic and industrial scenarios. This includes authoring tools, course development, intelligent storage and search using commercial and especially Open Source tools and components based on NLP, IR and Semantic Web technologies.
